Winter weather can be fun and exciting for the family and the family dog.  There are some important hazards for your dog that you should keep in mind.  First is the most obvious is the extreme cold.

All dogs need to have their time outdoors, but if your live where the weather is cold all the time the dogs time outside should be limited.  Some breeds like the cold and are built for cold but even these dogs should be monitored for icy paws or frozen ear tips.  If you have a short haired dog they should have on dog clothing or not be left outside for any length of time.

Our dog deserve our protection because they are so faithful and trust us implicitly.  Protect your dog while he or she is outside with dog sweaters or dog coats.  They deserve the best and we should give them the best.

Dog Collars

Are you getting a new puppy for Christmas this year?  If you are be sure and check out the different breeds because your dogs temperament should match yours.  You shouldn’t choose a breed that is highly energetic if you’re a couch potato.  On the other hand, if you want a dog that will follow you everywhere and who is always ready for a game of fetch or tug of war you should consider a dog that is highly active and always has a lot of energy, instead of one of the lethargic breeds.   You wouldn’t like it if your wanted to play and he wanted to lay.

What ever breed you decide to get your dog will need a collar.  The dog collars are the most beneficial item you can have for your dog.  A very important item to hang on the dog collar is the dog’s information.  His or her name, rabies information, and your information.  If the dog should happen to run off, someone can look at the dog collars tags and call you when they find your dog.

Dogs are wonderful friends and when we get them we plan on having them around for a long time.  Keep those dog collars on because you wouldn’t want to ever loose your best friend.

Dog Coats

Our furry dog companions have different clothing needs for different seasons. The summer and the winter are the two seasons that are potentially harmful weather to dogs. Dog coats can be an important part of your dogs winter wardrobe. Some people think it’s silly to dress up dogs. Dog clothing does serve a protective purpose. However, this is not the only reason people buy dog coats or other dog apparel. Owners just like dressing up their dogs. Some owners dress their dog as an accessory to their own wardrobes. Regardless of the reason people do dress up their pets.

Years ago, people would find dressing up a dog for protection would be just crazy, but more pets were kept outside years ago and they got used to the extreme elements. Since they had more exposure their bodies tolerated it much better. Today many of our dogs spend their time indoors and the winter dog coats and dog sweaters are a necessity when walking your dog in the frigged cold weather.  Today’s dogs need our protection especially if they spend most of their time inside with us.

Dog Raincoats

Most dogs don’t like the rain.  As I set looking out my window it’s raining and my dog just sets by the door and watches.  He gets a little scared when it storms, but he doesn’t mind walking in the rain because he has a great dog raincoat.

During the fall and winter months it’s important that we dress our pet well.  The rain is cold and our dogs must be covered with the dog clothes available so they can stay comfortable.  The small dog breeds need the protection because of their small stature and the large dog breeds like boxers need to stay warm due to their hair being so short and close to their skin.

Dress your pet in the cool dog raincoats available now and walk away.  You wouldn’t go without your raincoat and neither should your dog.

Dog Clothes

No doubt every one of our four-legged furry friends is built differently.  Any one of them from two tiny Chihuahuas to two Weimereimers are different and getting dog clothes to fit takes just a few minutes and a simple measuring tape.  Everyone knows that a ruler won’t work at all.  One could maybe use a metal measuring tape but that is a little stiff.  The best way to measure your pet for the designer dog clothes is by using a cloth measuring tape.  If you don’t have a cloth measuring tape you could use a string and lay it on the ruler.  When you measure carefully you will make sure your dog clothes not only look great, but are also comfortable and safe for your furry friend.

Measuring is especially important if you have a Bulldog or a Boston Terrier.  Measure from the base of the tail up to the base of the neck where you would see the coat lie comfortably.  If your dog has a stout chest or a bit on the heavy side you may want to move up a size.  Same thing for the smaller breeds or the thinner breeds such a a Greyhound where you may want to go down a size.  You want the fur to lie comfortable under the dog sweater or dog jacket.

Another thing is to make sure that your male dog will be able to go to the mail box and do what he feels like doing after he sniffs out his spot.  You want a dog sweater or a dog coat that is comfortable for you pet so you don’t want it to tight to short to long or to loose.  If the dog clothes do not fit properly it could be a safety issue where he may trip on his dog jacket.  Always measure your dog properly for that great fit so you can get the dog clothes you and your dog will be sure to like.

Holiday Fashions

Most of the time when a dog owner buys holiday dog clothes like a Halloween costume, they think it’s going to be safe to walk outside with the car traffic on the streets or dealing with the cold weather that usually hits around October 31st.  Just like the human costumes, the dog Halloween outfits are sometimes just for looks with no regard to the safety of the dog.  This is all great if your dog is staying at home to greet the trick-or-treaters.  However, there are many events held around the fall season that happens outside where you need to be extra careful with your pets.  They need to be visible and warm to stay safe when out walking with the kids.

The dog clothes available for the holiday season needs to be made with bright colors so they are easy to see.  If your small dog has on the bright holiday dog clothes they won’t have to worry about being stepped on and they will be one of the kids and have a great time.

Remember that it gets pretty chilly in the late fall so dress you little dog not only in bright colors but make sure the costume is warm so check out some dog jackets or dog coats available in the festive outfits.

Raincoats

So lets say you have a big dog.  You take him on hunting trips because he just has to go with you and you couldn’t hunt without him.  It’s cold and rainy outside but you just have to get that bird.  You know your dog has always been a faithful friend and he works so hard and you want to protect him and take care of him just like he does you.

The dog clothes industry has just the remedy for the working dog when the weather is on the cold, rainy side.  Your dog should have a dog raincoat for when the weather isn’t perfect.  There are many fashions to choose from and they all protect against the cold and damp.  These dog raincoats come in a camouflage color so when you are hunting he will blend in with the brush for that great catch you know you will get.  Some of the dog jackets come with a safety strip for your dogs protection.  Your dog’s health and safety is important to you so dress them in the warm dog clothes and hunt away.  And by the way good luck!

Boxer Puppy

Dog Jackets

I have just become a new doggy grandma.  My son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter just brought home a new Boxer puppy.  Her name is Roxie and she is just the cutest thing.  With those long legs and big feet the vet says she should weigh about 100 lbs.  Thus some interesting facts about Boxers.

They are considered guard dogs because they symbolize strength, agility and awareness.  This is why my son likes Boxers with  Roxie being his second one.  He wants his family to have protection and with their amazing loud bark they certainly would scare off anyone.

What these dogs need most is love.  They are very social and love to be around people.  They don’t do well when they are left alone for very long.  When they know that you are a friend, they become your best friend in return.  Boxers sure know how to give you that look with caring eyes and they know how to give comfort during sad times.  They also know how to “beg for treats”.

I found out that Boxers are very sensitive to extreme temperatures.  In times when it is to hot or cold the Boxers really need extra care.  They can overheat in the hot temperatures and get to cold in the winter months.  Their hair is short and close to the skin which makes very sensitive to the cold.  They do better if they can be in the house during extreme weather conditions.

So for my new Granddog, for the winter, she will be in a cute dog jacket and in the summer one of the great looking jeweled dog collars will be perfect.
